Rema, a popular Afrobeats artist known as Divine Ikubor, donated 105 million Nigerian Naira (equivalent to 87 million Rwandan Francs) to Christ Embassy Church in Benin. This gesture was in appreciation for the kindness the church showed his mother by providing her with capital to start a shop.

Rema, who rose to fame with songs like “Calm Down,” made this donation during a service on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

He expressed his gratitude to the church and its leadership for the significant support they gave his family, especially during the difficult times following his father’s death.

He said, “I’m not here to seek recognition or more accolades. I’m here to give glory to God. I feel it’s important to repay the kindness I received because the church welcomed me, prayed for me, and helped me stay on the right path.”

Rema continued by stating his desire to fulfill his pledge to support various church projects, including building infrastructure.

He added, “First, I want to fulfill my pledge of 40 million Naira for the church’s infrastructure projects. I also promise an additional 25 million for the church’s youth development programs.”

Additionally, Rema donated another 20 million Naira to support the widows within the church.

The artist went on to share how the church had supported his family during the challenging time following his father’s death.

He said, “When I was eight years old, after losing my father, we felt completely lost and abandoned. We were stripped of everything we had and felt isolated. I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the church pastors, opened a shop for my mother, which helped her take care of us.”
