The French midfielder Paul Pogba, who had been suspended for four years due to doping violations, has had his ban reduced to 18 months.

This decision was made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after an appeal was submitted by the 31-year-old player, who plays for Juventus in Italy. The ruling states that he will be allowed to return to play in March 2025, but he can start training with his team in January of that year.

In addition to the reduction of his ban, which was initially set to end in August 2027, this decision will also be announced by CAS on Monday, October 7, 2024. It includes that the €5,000 fine imposed will not be enforced.

A player found guilty of an offense may have their ban reduced if they demonstrate that the substances they took were unknowingly ingested, such as if they may have taken them in contaminated foods or assisted investigative bodies.

Paul Pogba was suspended in September 2023 after tests were conducted following Juventus’s match against Udinese on August 20, 2023, although he was on the bench during that game.

He played in the match against Bologna on August 27, 2023, and the one against Empoli on September 3, 2023, which was the last match he played. After that, this player, who has represented France 91 times and scored 11 goals, was immediately suspended pending the final decision, which was announced in December 2023, but the ban is counted from August when the initial tests were conducted.

Paul Pogba has a four-year contract with Juventus that he signed in the summer of 2022, which will expire in 2026.
