President of Gasogi United, Kakooza Nkuliza Charles (KNC), criticized the Amavubi coach’s idea, saying that the decision to increase foreign players in the Rwanda League is not something that should be added but rather reduced.

Coach Torsten Frank Spittler recently said that the idea of increasing foreign players in the Rwanda League is not justified because the league isn’t attractive enough to bring in top African players.

KNC said that this German coach is interfering in work that’s not his, because he’s not the one who should decide how football should be run in Rwanda.

He said, “Maybe he hasn’t been given his job description properly, and he thinks he came to be a technical director, a coach, and more. Those aren’t his responsibilities; such ideas should be given by someone in charge of technical matters. I’ve never seen anything like this since I was born.”

“The national team coach is not the one who dictates football policy in the country. And now he’s even talking about us club presidents? Who gave him the right to speak about people like that?”

The President of Gasogi United said that in his opinion, the Federation (FERWAFA) and the League should write to him, asking him to apologize for saying that “our football is nothing, it’s useless. Is everything we do useless?”

He gave an example of Rwandan players playing abroad that he called to help in the matches against Libya and Nigeria, saying that if we should reduce foreign players, then those playing abroad should also be kicked out because they’re not the best where they play either.

KNC also said that the coach himself isn’t that good if he came to coach a mediocre national team in football.

He said, “Isn’t he from one of the top countries in the world? So why did he come to coach in a league that’s considered nothing, with a team ranked 131st in FIFA? I think the things he said aren’t his concern, they’re not even his business. He’s overstepping, that’s meddling because those are the responsibilities of the technical director.”

Besides KNC, others have shared their thoughts on this issue, like sports journalist Sam Karenzi from Fine FM, who said that if it’s a problem, it started in his home country.

He said, “If that foolishness started in Germany because it’s been eight years since they made that foolish decision to remove the rule limiting foreign players! Is it because he’s leading the group that makes him disrespect people?”

Journalist Kayishema Thierry also reminded him that he shouldn’t talk about it because his level isn’t that high either.

He said, “Good European coaches coach teams in the top five leagues, second-level ones coach in Europe, the third group goes to Asia, and the fourth might go to big countries in Africa. What kind of coach agrees to coach a team ranked 131st in FIFA?”

Torsten Frank Spittler said this as he prepares for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he’ll play against Libya in Tripoli on September 4th and then on September 10th, 2024, in Kigali.
